LEMAY TO REFILL HIS OWN SHOES AT SPRINT

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Sprint Corp. announced last week the Ronald T. LeMay will return to the company as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

LeMay left Sprint in July to become chairman and chief executive officer of Oak Brook, Ill.-based Waste Management Inc., a position he resigned last Wednesday. The position of president and COO had been vacant since LeMay left. LeMay originally joined Sprint in 1985 as president and general counsel for United Telephone System, and in 1986 was named senior vice president of operations. A year later, he became executive vice president of corporate affairs for Sprint and took on added responsibilities as executive vice president of staff for the company’s long-distance operations in 1988.

In October 1989, LeMay was named president and COO of Sprint’s Long-Distance Division. He held that position until becoming chief executive of Sprint Spectrum L.P. in March 1995, and remained in that position until September 1996. He was named president and COO of Sprint in February 1996.

LeMay also will return to the Sprint board of directors.
