PHILIPS TO SUPPLY AT&T NEW PHONES

PARSIPPANY, N.J.-Philips Consumer Communications L.P. and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said that Philips will provide AT&T with multifunction, digital wireless handsets under an agreement previously entered into with Lucent Technologies Inc.

Philips Consumer Communications is a joint venture of Lucent and Philips Electronics N.V. that was launched Oct. 1. The phones will be co-branded with the Philips and AT&T names.

The first phone included in the contract, called the Philips Digital Cellular PCS Telephone 6738, is a dual-mode/dual-band unit. The unit can operate on analog networks, and Interim Standard-136A Time Division Multiple Access systems at 800 MHz and 1.9 GHz. The contract also entitles AT&T Wireless to purchase other models of Philips TDMA handsets.
