ARLINGTON, Va.-The Telecommunications Industry Association said it published two new interim standards.
“Wireless Radio Telecom-munication Intersystem Non-Signaling Data Communication DMH (Data Message Handler),” or IS-124-A, describes the test procedures and messages necessary to provide to wireless service providers non-signaling data communications requiring interaction between different wireless systems.
Created by TIA’s Cellular Intersystem Operations subcommittee, it is complementary to the IS-41-C “Cellular Radiotelecommunications Intersystem Operations,” and identifies wireless services specifically involving non-signaling data communications which require intersystem cooperation.
The second new standard, “Addendum to IS-98-A: Additional Tests for Mobile Stations Supporting Wide-band Spread Spectrum Cellular Systems,” or IS-98-A-1, describes additional tests to determine forward link performance when the interference level is high relative to the usable received signal power.
The performance in these situations is important during call initiation (before soft handoff is established) and in hard handoffs between two base stations on the same frequency.
