L.M. Ericsson signed two joint venture agreements to produce equipment in Russia. The pacts were established in conjunction with Russian President Boris Yeltsin’s recent visit to Sweden.
Under the first agreement, with financial company Sistema, Ericsson will produce AXE equipment at a new plant in Zelenograd. AXE is a switching system that supports fixed and wireless services. Ericsson will hold the majority stake in Ericsson Sistema Telecom with 55 percent.
The second deal joins public telecom operator Sviazinform Nizhni Novgorod and Nitel, a Russian telecom vendor, with Ericsson, to produce Ericsson’s radio access system DRA 1900 based on the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications standard.
