NOKIA RELEASES CDMA 1900 PHONE IN THE AMERICAS

IRVING, Texas-Nokia Corp. introduced its first Code Division Multiple Access-based 1900 MHz digital phone for the Americas. Nokia’s research and development center in San Diego developed the Nokia 2170, which is scheduled to be available in commercial volumes during the first quarter.

The phone supports all digital features including short message service, call forwarding, call waiting, caller ID and voice privacy, said the company. The phone also can be personalized using 10 distinct ringing tones, VIP alert tones, colored face plates and multilanguage capabilities including English, French and Spanish.

Larry Paulson, vice president of Nokia’s CDMA product line management, said the introduction of the 2170, as well as the earlier release of a CDMA dual-mode 800 MHz phone, signifies the company’s commitment to CDMA technology.
