KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Sprint Spectrum L.P. has completed its 1997 launch phase, bringing Sprint personal communications services to 134 metropolitan markets across the country. The company also announced the markets where it plans to start service during the next two years.
In 1998 and early 1999 Sprint PCS said it plans to begin PCS in more than 100 metropolitan markets including Palm Springs, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura, Calif.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Stamford, Conn., Jacksonville, Orlando, St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay, Fla.; Baton Rouge, La.; Charlotte, N.C.; Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio; Memphis, Tenn.; Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas and Houston.
Lucent Technologies Inc., Motorola Inc. and Northern Telecom Ltd. are providing the Code Division Multiple Access network infrastructure equipment for the Sprint PCS network. The recent launches of Sprint PCS service in Boston and Los Angeles marked the final 1997 launch markets for Lucent in the Sprint PCS network, said the company.
