Paging Network Inc. will be the primary network provider for a remote automotive vehicle security system developed by Adaptive Vehicle Systems, according to an agreement signed between the two companies. Using PageNet’s network, motorists can “page” their automobiles with messages to lock and unlock doors, start or disable the ignition, activate or deactivate the alarm and release the trunk, all remotely. The remote security system is marketed by Audiovox Corp. and other distributors.
Infowave and Certicom Corp. have entered into a licensing agreement in which Infowave plans to deploy Certicom’s Security Builder cryptographic toolkit in its wireless messaging software, the companies announced. Security Builder uses elliptic curve cryptography technology to ensure privacy and provide authentication and non-repudiation capabilities, which guarantee user identity and supply proof of transaction, Certicom said.
Brightpoint Inc. has completed a two-year agreement with Nokia Corp. to become the company’s sole distributor of wireless phones to dealers in the United States, Brightpoint announced. Although Nokia will continue to sell phones directly to carriers, Brightpoint will be the company’s only distributor to sell to smaller dealers, said Megan Matthews, communications manager for Nokia. Nokia’s line of accessories will continue to be sold through three distributors, she added.
World Wireless Communications Inc. received initial orders for equipment from Williams Telemetry potentially valued at $70 million, said the company. The orders are for a variety of products, including radio transmitters and receivers and spread spectrum transceivers that will be used in the Williams Telemetry information gathering system.
Philips Consumer Communications L.P. introduced the Myna pager, its third and lightest FLEX-based pager. The 1.52 ounce, 2.32-cubic-inch unit comes in four colors and features 32 time-stamped message storage, 25-week battery life, programmable alarms and a 12-character liquid crystal display with time and date. Philips said the Myna will retail for $50 and come with a carrying holster.
