MOTOROLA RELEASES NEW PHONES AT CES

LAS VEGAS-Motorola Inc. introduced two dual-band phones at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a Global System for Mobile communications phone and a Time Division Multiple Access phone, as well as custom leather cases for its analog StarTAC wearable phones.

The cd160, Motorola’s new dual-band GSM phone, works on existing 900 MHz and 1800 MHz networks and is designed to allow access to anticipated future GSM dual band systems, the company said. It weighs 7.875 ounces and offers up to five hours of talk time 90 hours of standby time. The cd160 supports conference calling and short messaging, and can transmit data at 9,600 bits per second.

Motorola’s new TDMA phone, the MicroDigital M75, will automatically default to a conventional Advanced Mobile Phone Service network where TDMA service is not yet available. The first Motorola phone to support short messaging service in the United States, the M75 weighs six ounces and features a sleep mode to increase standby time.

Motorola also has collaborated with leather goods marketer, Coach, to offer the leather phone cases in black or tan for $68, Motorola said.
