SOUTHWESTERN BELL ACHIEVES ROLLOUT MILESTONE

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-With the launch of digital service in Kansas City, Southwestern Bell said it now offers Time Division Multiple Access service in all of its major markets.

The company’s digital cellular service, branded Digital Edge, will integrate the company’s existing analog network so customers will be able to travel between the digital and analog networks without losing a call or having to redial.

Southwestern Bell officials say they waited to deploy digital service until they could offer customers dual-mode phones. The company now is offering three models, one from Nokia and two from Ericsson, which range in price form $225 to $270 with a month-to-month service agreement, or $140 to $180 with a one-year service agreement.
