ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group announced an agreement totaling nearly $40 million to supply four operators in northern regions of Mexico with Code Division Multiple Access infrastructure.
The agreement with Baja Celular Mexicana, Movitel del Noroeste, Telefonia Celular del Norte and Celular de Telefonia will mark the first commercial deployments of CDMA in Mexico, Motorola CIG said.
The four cellular operators’ service regions border the United States and are anchored by the cities of Tijuana, Juarez and Monterrey, where base station deployment has already begun. “Now, CDMA subscribers in the (United States) and Mexico will experience seamless roaming coverage across their respective borders,” said Jack Finlayson, corporate vice president and general manager of the Americas Cellular Infrastructure Group at Motorola.
