Comsat Corp. said it filed a breach of contract lawsuit against IDB Mobile Communications Inc. in U.S. District Court of Maryland, seeking to collect $5 million for satellite services it said it provided to IDB in 1997. “We have paid for every Comsat service we have used and for which we have been invoiced,” said Derrick Rowe, president of Stratos Mobile Networks, IDB’s parent company.
Litchfield County Cellular Inc. and Cellular Phone of Kentucky received a $20 million senior revolving debt facility from PNC Bank N.A., announced Communications Equity Associates Inc., which represented the companies in the agreement. Both companies are based in Nicholasville, Ky., and together operate wireless systems under the name of Ramcell Inc. The funds from the deal will be used primarily to repay existing debt and for continued capital improvement to the systems, CEA said.
PageMart Wireless Inc. said it completed its public offering of 11.25 percent senior subordinated notes due 2008, raising about $250 million. The stock offering and other refinancing actions are expected to result in a $13.9 million charge to first quarter results.
Cellular 2000/Rural Cellular Corp. expanded its footprint by adding a cellular site in the Ortonville and Cass Lake, Minn., area. The company also recently completed construction of its Keewatin, Minn., site.
Reltec Corp. is investing nearly $5 million to expand its existing production facility located in Northern Ireland as part of a strategy to develop its main European base for power products there. Reltec acquired the 73,000-square-foot facility in Ballynahinch, County Down, earlier this year.
