STAMFORD, Conn.-Online service subscribers make up a majority of wireless users and are considered top prospects for wireless providers marketing emerging technologies or bundled services, according to a recent survey conducted by Intelligent Information Inc. and Directions for Decisions.
The survey targeted home and business Internet subscribers who were new to the Internet, were intermediate users or were Internet veterans. The survey found that Internet subscribers were 21 percent more likely to own a cellular phone than the general population and 28 percent of those surveyed had a personal communications services phone.
Although overall pager use was only slightly higher among Internet users than the general population, veteran Internet users commanded the highest penetration of alphanumeric devices at 30 percent.
Two-thirds of online respondents claimed awareness of text-based wireless information services while only 40 percent of the general sample could claim the same. III said these results point to a higher level of technological savvy among Internet users.
“You’ve got to watch this segment closely,” said Stephen Maloney, III president. “They’re the opinion leaders who herald the demand for products and technologies in the mainstream.”
