SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Land Mobile Products Sector said it deployed the first SmartZone OmniLink very-wide-area two-way radio communications system for Western Resources, an electric and gas utility company based in Topeka, Kan.
SmartZone OmniLink is a private trunking solution that uses distributed call processing architecture to allow large mission-critical users, including states and the federal government and utilities, the ability to roam and operate seamlessly throughout vast geographic areas, noted Motorola.
Distributed call processing links up to four multisite SmartZone systems into one seamless network, supporting up to 192 radio sites. This offers a 300-percent increase in sites supported compared with previous network solutions, according to the company.
“Our field workers, supervisors, service personnel and operations staff can now communicate anywhere within our 400-mile service area using portable radios,” said Joe Wilden, a Western Resources project manager.
Motorola said SmartZone OmniLink helps organizations reduce operating costs, accommodate consolidations and acquisitions and increase productivity by better matching radio coverage to dynamic operating boundaries.
In addition, SmartZone OmniLink gives public-safety agencies more distributed control with its robust call-processing features that allow operators to manage emergencies and inter-agency coordination over broad geographical areas.
The new system supports VHF, UHF, 800 MHz and 900 MHz frequency bands, as well as analog, ASTRO+ digital and dual-mode (analog/digital) system configurations, including simulcast subsystems, said Motorola.
Motorola’s Land Mobile Products Sector provides analog and digital two-way voice and data radio products and systems for applications worldwide, from on-site to wide-area communications.
