Excel Switching Corp., a provider of open switching platforms, said it is in the process of a product rollout phase that raises the level of programmability to new heights and allows wireless carriers to offer more services faster.
The company is introducing ONE Architecture that enables carriers and developers to integrate network routing, enhanced services and media support on a single, highly scalable switching platform.
EXS Call Control and EXS Resource are the first two open, programmable software products for ONE Architecture. These products can be accessed from a common set of development tools, which enables carriers and developers to create and implement enhanced services quickly and easily, said the company.
“We are in the middle of the biggest and fastest changing industry on the planet,” said Bob Panoff, vice president of marketing. “Excel has had some of the most success taking what was always a proprietary and closed technology and making it open.”
Using ONE architecture, emerging wireless local loop and personal communications services carriers can rapidly develop solutions that fold basic and enhanced telephony services into one integrated network. For example, carriers can use ONE Architecture to expand their network functionality by closely integrating call-routing and enhanced services.
This allows carriers to seamlessly, quickly and cost-effectively implement revenue-generating enhanced services faster and with a higher degree of integration than older, single-service switches or programmable switches used as service overlays.
EXS Call Control allows operators to off-load basic network routing from the host, resulting in the cost-effective and consistent management of network resources, said Excel.
EXS Resource integrates multimedia resources into the switching environment via industry-standard media APIs, creating a unique call control model.
