MONTVALE, N.J.-Geotek Communications Inc. launched a new branding effort called “Workpower for the Road,” which includes a new logo and a product-Geotek Driver Logistics System 1000-designed to increase mobile productivity, the company said.
The Driver Logistics System, to be introduced this month, combines previously separate product lines into a single system based on five integrated functions. The system includes navigation functions to improve routing, task processing functions to simplify paperwork, safety and security functions to protect drivers and their payloads from injury and theft, communications functions to provide real-time intelligence between drivers and their contacts and driver well-being functions to relieve driver stress and fatigue and enhance alertness, said Geotek.
Twenty-seven percent of all miles driven by commercial fleets are wasted, according to the Private Fleet Management Institute, but a recent study by Captain Consultants found that companies that deployed mobile logistics systems experienced productivity increases of 20 percent, Geotek said.
Geotek’s new strategic direction was based on proprietary research conducted by Bright Sun Consulting that found increased demands for security and productivity. “For companies with fleets, the last frontier of productivity and performance is the field,” said Yaron Eitan, chairman and chief executive officer of Geotek.
The Geotek DLS uses an in-vehicle device linked to the Geotek network through a gateway to the dispatch center, which uses proprietary Workpower applications. The new system has more than 30 service features and includes global positioning system-based vehicle location features, job tracking and reporting, security features, two-way communication and text messaging. The DLS also can be integrated with back office systems, said the company.
The logistics system sells for a single contract fee that includes all the system equipment, network airtime, system training, installation and maintenance, said Geotek.
