IRVING, Texas-NEC America Inc. said its Wireless Voice Terminals Division developed a new merchandising program to support GTE Corp.’s FamilyNet, a wireless service that allows up to four family members to stay in touch using cellular phones and pagers.
“NEC is in a unique position of being one of few manufacturers to offer a full range of cellular and paging services, and the FamilyNet program gives us the opportunity to showcase our products through an alliance with a known industry leader,” said Jose Sosa, director of marketing for NEC’s WVT.
FamilyNet features one bill for the entire family, a free incoming minute on land-to-mobile calls and no peak-time or off-hour restrictions.
GTE is offering free local paging service and free calls between FamilyNet mobile phones until Mother’s Day, when mobile-to-mobile calls will be 10 cents per minute. Sign-up expires April 18.
The new merchandising promotion consists of point-of-purchase and custom display materials, recently shipped to GTE stores.
NEC also is creating a display, which will be available to customers through co-op programs beginning in April, NEC said. It is scheduled to be shipped at the end of this month.
