Vivox USA Inc.
Vivox USA Inc. plans to begin shipping its patented hands-free car kit, the VL-1E7 for GE/Ericsson 6xx/7xx series cellular phones this month. The system uses a vehicle’s cassette player to amplify the sound from the cellular phone through the existing speakers. The kit includes a special cassette, an ear piece for private listening and a pouch for transport and storage. The VL-1 costs about $50. (954) 929-8999.

The RD2129 is a medium-power linear amplifier IC designed specifically for low-voltage operation in 2.5 GHz industrial, scientific and medical band applications. Operating from a single 3.3-volt power supply, the amplifier delivers +26dBm saturated output power and 26.5 dB small signal gain with 42 percent efficiency. Designed for use as the final radio-frequency amplifier in a transmitter, the RF2129 has a frequency range of 1800 MHz to 2500 MHz. Other applications include personal communications services, wireless local area network systems, broadband spread spectrum system and portable battery-powered equipment. The IC is less than $5 when purchased in volume. (336) 664-1233, ext. 3327.
Mobile Systems International
Planet, a design software tool by Mobile Systems International used to plan wireless networks, now is available for the Windows NT platform. Previously only available on the Sun and HP UNIX platforms, customers now can run the interactive design tool on IBM-compatible computers. +44 171 971 2970.
Rayovac Corp.
Rayovac now offers retailers a full line of rechargeable batteries for cellular phones and video camcorders in various chemistries and battery sizes following its acquisition of the retail business of Direct Power Plus of New York. The StatView System, which allows caregivers to view vital patient information and respond to multiple alarms using a hand-held wireless receiver, recently receive Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance. The automatic alarm notification system transmits and displays ECG wave forms wirelessly. Caregivers can scroll through information including the patient’s name, bed number, alarm condition and heart rate. Within seconds of the emergent event, StatView will display the six-second pre-event and current ECG waveform associated with that alarm. (800) 442-0645.
Moffet, Larson & Johnson Inc.
QuikSite 4.1, the latest version of MLJ’s preliminary design tool, allows engineers to run multiple radial studies simultaneously and offers an enhanced Snap-To feature that automatically links new sites to existing building or structures. The Windows-based program that runs within MapInfo allows users full access to MapInfo’s mapping features including layer control and table browsing. QuickSite can also be used to tabulate cell and radio channel counts for financial modeling, show how designs change over time, compare design scenarios using alternative engineering assumption, view base maps shaded according to user-developed wireless telephony market demand projections, and create professional display maps for use in marketing presentations. Simoco
The University of Birmingham and Simoco developed a new speech enhancement system to assist mobile radio users by doubling word recognition in noisy environments. The new system will be incorporated into Simoco Trans-European Trunked Radio mobile radios this year. The speech enhancement system, for which Simoco has applied for a patent, detects background noise and automatically adjusts the speech characteristics by making minute adjustments to pitch and tone. +44 171 344 1264.
Equifax
Equifax is developing and maintaining a data exchange that automatically alerts customers in the wireless industry to a potential fraud situation. The risk assessment tool is designed to combat subscription fraud while keeping acquisition costs low. Wireless Fraud Data Exchange members continually contribute information on their suspect fraud cases to the database, and when a consumer application is processed via Equifax’s proprietary MultiVision platform, the fraud data exchange automatically checks the database for a match. A flag is returned when a match is found. Equifax plans to make its Wireless Fraud Data Exchange available to the wireless industry in second quarter. (404) 885-8074.
