MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. said it formed a new business venture that will provide products to help emergency crews respond to wireline and wireless 911 calls more quickly.
The Lucent Public Safety Systems venture introduced the Palladium package, a line of product offerings developed by Lucent and Bell Laboratories for 911 call-handling systems. Palladium products include software for telephone network switches, caller-location databases, 911 call-answering equipment, computer-aided dispatch systems and records management systems.
“Our latest offerings use high-speed ISDN signals and promise to cut average connect times for E911 calls from about eight seconds to about two seconds,” said Bob Oliver, president of Lucent Public Safety Systems. Connect times are important, said the company, because 911 callers often will hang up and try again if they don’t hear a ringing signal within a few seconds.
