HONG KONG-Lucent Technologies Inc. appointed Scott K. Erickson vice president of its Wireless Networks Group for the Asia-Pacific region, effective immediately. Erickson’s responsibilities in his new position include developing market opportunities, business development and sales strategy for wireless systems and wireless access across the region.
As an industry veteran who helped launch the first commercial cellular system in Chicago in 1983, Erickson brings to the job extensive experience in sales and strategic marketing management, client development and customer relations. Erickson has spent the last four years as vice president of marketing and business development for Lucent.
Erickson’s move is partly in response to increased demand driven by privatization and deregulation in the Asia-Pacific region, said Lucent.
Erickson’s team will target operators in the 14 Asia-Pacific countries where Lucent has a presence. He will be based in Hong Kong at the company’s regional headquarters and report to Michael Butcher, regional president, and Jim Brewington, Wireless Networks Group president, in Whippany, N.J.
“In this highly competitive environment, Scott will bring added focus to one of our fastest-growing market segments,” Butcher said.
Ken Trojniar and Doug Kirkpatrick, two other wireless top executives at Lucent, will be transferring to Tokyo and Beijing, respectively, and will be working closely with Erickson, Lucent said.
Lucent also recently recruited John Conrad, who headed up Motorola’s Thailand operation; David Marinelli, president and chief operating officer of the Alpha Group in Bangkok; Raymond Tan, vice president for global accounts of Northern Telecom Ltd.’s Singapore office; and Bill Allard and George Webster, marketing and human resources executives from EDS in Australia.
