Conxus Communications Inc. said it completed a $100 million convertible senior subordinated note offering. Conxus plans to use proceeds from the private placement to fund network buildout, operating expenses, working capital requirements and general corporate purposes. Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette Inc. was the sole placement agent for the offering. Conxus is developing a nationwide narrowband personal communications services network based on Motorola’s InFLEXion technology.
Iridium L.L.C. said it plans to offer frequent flyer promotions, mileage bonuses and other incentives to members of Air Canada’s Aeroplan to attract new subscribers under the companies’ new joint marketing agreement. Iridium is on track to launch commercial satellite communications services using its own constellation of 66 satellites in September.
Personal communications services provider Omnipoint Communications Inc. announced its second roaming agreement in Norway with NetCom. The Global System for Mobile communications carrier’s other agreement there is with Telenor Mobile.
Tecnomen won a contract from Tele Danmark, a wireless operator in Denmark, to expand its multimessaging system to accommodate 1 million new subscribers on its fixed and mobile networks. Tecnomen, which designs and manufactures enhanced services systems and wide-area paging systems, is owned by Kyro Corp., which operates in the safety glass, telecommunications and energy industries.
Telesystem International Wireless Inc. announced that its French subsidiary, Regiocom SA, acquired the specialized mobile radio operations of France Telecom, adding about 25,000 subscribers. France Telecom’s operations are marketed under the Praxiphone, Heliophone and Armoricom brand names.
Nextel Communications Inc. announced its wholly owned subsidiary, Nextel International Inc., will launch commercial service in Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the name Nextel Argentina S.R.L. The Argentine system is planned to bring Motorola Inc.’s integrated Digital Enhanced Network enhanced specialized mobile radio technology to the greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area, covering a population of about 20 million.
