BOSCH AND CISCO DEVELOP BROADBAND WIRELESS SERVICES

ATLANTA-Bosch Telecom Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. announced plans to develop and market broadband wireless networking solutions designed to help service providers offer integrated voice, data and video services faster and more cost effectively.

Through the strategic alliance, the companies will collaborate on joint engineering, product development, marketing, sales, training and customer support to enable service providers to deploy value-added services based on Local Multipoint Distribution Service technology.

The two companies already have worked closely in several joint customer proposals, and Cisco was heavily involved in developing a live LMDS environment in the Bosch LMDS Multimedia Dallas Showcase, which allowed participants to experience the operation of an LMDS network firsthand.

LMDS networks allow the delivery of more than a gigabit of bandwidth to a large number of customer locations within a 2-mile to 5-mile radius of the radio base station. The bandwidth can accommodate any mix of integrated voice, data and video applications.

“With Bosch Telecom’s leadership in point-to-multipoint broadband wireless solutions, and Cisco’s leadership in networking for the Internet, we are well-positioned for market leadership in offering the most complete set of integrated broadband wireless internetworking solutions and integration services,” said Don Listwin, executive vice president of Cisco.
