KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Sprint PCS said it introduced a service that allows customers to connect their non-Sprint-branded pagers with their Sprint PCS handsets.
The new service, Sprint PCS Page Connect, is available to more than 1.2 million customers served by Sprint PCS. The first month of service is free. After that, subscribers pay $4 per month.
The service allows other brands of pagers to be used with Sprint PCS voice mail that prompts callers to leave either voice or numeric messages. If a voice message is left for a Sprint PCS subscriber, message notification can be sent to the Sprint PCS phone and to the pager. The pager will display the customer’s Sprint PCS number, alerting the customer they have a voice-mail message. If the caller chooses to send a numeric message, the page will be delivered to the subscriber’s pager. Customers then can use their Sprint PCS phone to answer the page without accessing voice mail.
The company also announced enhancements to its voice-mail service. The new Callback and Place Call features allow customers to return and make calls while retrieving messages from their voice mail.
The Callback feature allows customers to call someone back immediately when listening to their voice messages while connected to their voice-mailbox. To use Place Call, a customer presses one key from the main menu of voice mail, and enters a phone number to initiate a call. Once the call is complete, the customer is returned to the main menu of voice mail.
