WANDEL & GOLTERMANN

RadMan is a personal safety monitor introduced by German company Wandel & Goltermann that measures electric and magnetic fields in any direction. RadMan monitors the limit values established by control boards and gives an alarm if the levels are exceeded. The monitor is able to distinguish the differences in limit values for different frequencies, showing the exposure level as a percentage of the relevant limit on the device’s display. RadMan can be used in Germany, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. (+49) 7121 8616 16 or www.wg.com.

The leather wallet-style pager purse comes in black or wine for US$16. The over-the-shoulder style leather purse comes in black for US$40. (+1) 847-538-8001 or www.motorola.com/accesspoint.

WIRELESS SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL

United Kingdom-based Wireless Systems International Ltd. launched its 1.8 GHz/1.9 GHz Multi Carrier Power Amplifier (MCPA). The amplifier meets the European Telecommunications Standards Institute’s (ETSI) requirement of -75 dBc linearity for GSM (Global System for Mobile communications). The ETSI standard was met by developing a self-optimizing Feed Forward technique under control of a digital signal processor (DSP) designed to eliminate variations caused by temperature, aging and loading. The MCPA can be used in 1800 MHz DCS (Digital Cellular System) and 1900 MHz GSM networks. (+44) 117-906-6210 or www.wsil.com.

MOBIX

Software developer Mobix Communications Ltd., based in Tel-Aviv, Israel, recently introduced MobiCell Pilot. The software application allows the PalmPilot handset to operate on a Mobitex wireless network in the United States, Europe, Far East and many other countries. While connected to Mobitex using MobiCell, the PalmPilot phone becomes a connectivity device offering the user two-way paging, e-mail, data collection, Internet access, as well as signature authorizations and other applications. TELEWORX

Teleworx introduced a new mapping and analysis tool called MapworX that allows users to map data such as coverage, interference, network performance, traffic, demographics and a subscriber information model, and stack several data layers for simultaneous viewing. MapworX uses a GIS (geographic information systems) engine originally built for the company’s advanced engineering design tools. MapworX features include drag-and-drop capability, statistical reporting and import and export of data, including MapInfo files. (+1) 703-448-0300 or www.teleworx.com.

NOISE CANCELLATION TECHNOLOGIES

The NoiseBuster cellular headset introduced by Noise Cancellation Technologies Inc. is designed to improve the clarity of incoming phone calls by electronically reducing ambient low-frequency background noise. Low-frequency noise can be generated by engines, fans, traffic or other people talking in the background. It can bury the soft consonant sounds that carry the meaning of speech, making the conversation difficult to decipher. The active noise reduction technology found in NoiseBuster originally was developed for military and aviation applications. It electronically couples a sound wave with its exact mirror image to cancel the noise. The NoiseBuster headset can provide 100 hours of hands-free use on two AAA batteries. The list price is US$90. NOISE COM

Noise Com unveiled its Satellite Channel Simulator, the SCS250, a complete testing solution for full-duplex communication between satellites and ground transceivers, including earth stations and subscriber units. The SCS250 emulates the channel characteristics of low-earth-orbit, medium-earth-orbit or geostationary satellites so engineers can measure system performance prior to launching the satellite. The simulator provides up to four independent links to test the effects of propagation delay, Doppler shifts, path losses, fast and slow fading and degradation in signal-to-noise rations. A link analysis can be performed for any combination of transmission problems. Other features include a delay range of up to 2,000 ms, Doppler range of +500 kilohertz, RF channel bandwidth of 10 megahertz, with an option for 20 megahertz and three or six paths per channel. Set-up and control of the SCS250 is done using a Windows-based software interface. (+1) 201-261-8797 or www.noisecom.com.

WAVECOM

Wavecom launched its second-generation wireless standard module (WISMO2), offering an integrated wireless solution for numerous applications. The module about the size of a matchbox can be implemented into vehicle tracking systems, measurement and telemetry devices, payment terminals and information services. WISMO2 is designed to make entry into the wireless market faster and more affordable. The new WISMO2 module supports 1800 MHz GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) and 1900 MHz PCS (Personal Communications Services) networks, as well as multiband GSM and DECT systems. ALLEN TELECOM

The Decibel Products division of Allen Telecom Inc. introduced the DB809HVDE-TP, a new Diversity Master antenna that combines the enhanced receive diversity benefits of dual polarization with the versatility of an omnidirectional antenna. The antenna is offered in the 896 MHz to 942 MHz frequency for paging and trunking applications. It incorporates within one radome a horizontally polarized and vertically polarized antenna, each with 9 dBd gain, to realize receive diversity. The Diversity Master antenna offers a maximum input power of 500 watts per connector. The product features a gain of 9 dBd (11.1 dBi), and provides an isolation of greater than 30 dB.

Grayson Wireless, a division of Allen Telecom, added support of Interim Standard-136 to its drive test and measurement tool, Surveyor. Surveyor allows wireless operators to analyze system performance during the network verification and optimization stages and conduct benchmarking across the standards. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS

Texas Instruments Inc. introduced two new digital signal processors (DSPs) with low-power dissipation and 100 MIPS (millions of instructions per second) performance. The TMS320C549 and the TMS320C5410, about the size of a thumbnail, are designed for space-constrained applications like digital ra
dios, surgically implanted hearing aids, GPS (global positioning system) terminals and portable inform
ation devices that combine voice, data and video. The ‘C5410 DSP includes new input/output peripheral functionality on-chip designed to eliminate external discrete devices. A new multichannel buffered serial port (MCBSP) performs functions previously accomplished in an off-chip ASIC (application specific integrated circuit), FPGA (field programmable gate array) or PLD (programmable logic device). The MCBSP connects to a carrier’s T1-E1 line through a framer chip and handles the data sorting and other functions. (+1) 303-294-3747, ext. 4500 or www.ti.com.
