INTERDIGITAL

Gerard Pepenella was hired by InterDigital Communications Corp. as vice president and general manager of broadband Code Division Multiple Access technology. He will collaborate with Gary Lomp, chief technology officer, on growth and enhancement of the company’s technology and products. Pepenella joined InterDigital with 17 years of business leadership and engineering experience. He spent the last ten years with Lucent Technologies Inc.’s Microelectronics division, Allentown, Penn., where as director of broadband integrated circuits, he most recently was responsible for a product line that included transmission, broadband access and broadband Application Specific Integrated Circuits. Before that, Pepenella worked for eight years with AT&T Bell Labs as a project leader on switching products.

PRIMECO

Leon Garza was named vice president/general manager of the south Florida market for PrimeCo Personal Communications L.P. Garza joins PrimeCo with 14 years of marketing and sales management experience, most recently as director of network operations for Motorola Inc.’s organization in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Prior to his six years at Motorola, Garza held various marketing and sales management positions at Hewlett-Packard Co.

SIEMENS Microelectronics

Effective Thursday, Edward S. Caragliano will serve as senior vice president of product marketing, applications and engineering for Siemens Microelectronics Inc. Prior to joining Siemens, Caragliano was vice president of very-large-scale integration development and manufacturing for Seagate Technology Inc., Scotts Valley, Calif. Caragliano has 23 years of experience leading development and manufacturing companies in the areas of technology development, storage subsystem development, system integration and product management, custom Application Specific Integrated Circuit design and manufacturing and forming and managing strategic partnerships. Before Seagate, he held management positions at Tandem Computers, IBM Corp. and Bendix Corp.

GSM ALLIANCE

Don Warkentin, president and chief executive officer of Aerial Communications Inc., was re-elected chairman of the North American GSM Alliance L.L.C., and Bob Brown, director of the organization, was appointed to serve as the group’s secretary and treasurer. Several U.S. and Canadian Global System for Mobile communications carriers comprise the GSM Alliance, which promotes use of the technology.

COMMSITE

Kenneth W. Buchanan and Charles Ryan both joined CommSite International Inc. as regional business development managers. Prior to joining CommSite, Buchanan served as director of international marketing and sales for DAPA Communications Inc., Allegany, N.Y. His other previous experience includes managing original equipment manufacturer accounts with L.M. Ericsson, Lucent Technologies Inc., Motorola Inc., Northern Telecom Ltd. and Qualcomm Inc. Ryan, a lawyer specializing in zoning issues, was telecommunications project director for Techstar Communications prior to joining CommSite. His other wireless experience includes a position as telecommunications zoning/leasing manager for Entel, and telecommunications zoning analyst for SBA Inc.

AIRTECH

Airtech Wireless Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Airtech plc of the United Kingdom, appointed William H. Cole president and chief executive officer. He also will serve on the company’s board of directors. Cole joined the company in January 1997 as vice president of business development and was promoted to general manager in December. Before joining Airtech, Cole served in management positions at Sinclair Radio Laboratories, Repco Inc. and Harris Corp.

ROGERS CANTEL

The appointment of Cathy MacDonald as vice president of business system development for Rogers Cantel Inc. will be effective Oct. 1. She will be responsible for development and implementation of the company’s new billing and customer-care system, including management of the project plan and scope, communicating with key shareholders and facilitating capital acquisition. MacDonald joined Rogers Cablesystems in 1986 and has held several senior management positions, including vice president of information technology and chief information officer. Most recently, she was vice president and general manager for Rogers Cablesystems in Ontario.

BELLSOUTH MOBILITY

Five BellSouth Mobility employees in the company’s north Alabama region were promoted. Milton Dennis was named sales and service manager, level II, for the Huntsville area. Karl Long was promoted to distribution sales manager, level II, for the Muscle Shoals area. Scott Williams was named direct sales representative for the Muscle Shoals area. Jo Ann Stokes was promoted to sales and service manager, level I, for the Muscle Shoals area. Anthony Tyson Lee was appointed sales and service manager, level I, for the Florence sales and service centers and the Florence and Muscle Shoals Wal-Mart kiosks.

INTELLICELL

David Kane was appointed chief financial officer of Intellicell Corp. The company’s president was functioning as both president and chief financial officer since May 1998. Kane most recently served as the CFO for Grand Havana Enterprises Inc., and has more than 12 years of experience. He also has served as a certified public accountant in a variety of industries, as well as with public accounting firms. Kane started his career at Arthur Andersen & Co.

METAWAVE

Victor K. Liang joined Metawave Communications Corp. as senior vice president of GSM, in charge of the company’s expansion into the Global System for Mobile communications market. Liang will lead a new organization that will design, manufacture and market smart antenna systems for GSM networks worldwide. Prior to joining Metawave, Liang held several senior executive positions at Siemens AG, most recently as managing director of Siemens Shanghai Mobile Communications where he was responsible for building Siemens’ GSM infrastructure and handset business in mainland China. Before that, he led Siemens’ entry into the U.S. wireless market as vice president of the wireless products group at Siemens Stromberg-Carlson.

AMS

American Management Systems Inc. President Philip M. Giuntini resigned from the company and from its board of directors. Giuntini joined AMS in 1970 and became president of the company in 1992, with overall responsibility for the financial services and telecommunications practice areas. After record growth between 1994 and 1996, the telecom practice has suffered many disappointments, and since then the strategy for the group was revamped and new leadership put in place. James W. Sheaffer was appointed general manager of AMS-Europe, responsible for the strategic direction and bottom-line performance of AMS’ telecommunications practice in the Latin American, North American, South American and Asia-Pacific markets. Scheaffer, a 23-year AMS veteran, already spent eight years in Europe, where he was responsible for executing the company’s strategic plan for European expansion.

METROCALL

Ellen M. Crawford was promoted to marketing director for Metrocall Inc. She served as marketing manager at corporate headquarters in Alexandria, Va., and now will be responsible for managing the corporate headquarters’ marketing staff as well as the marketing unit in the company’s Pensacola, Fla., office. Crawford will report to the senior vice president of marketing and communications.

CABLE & WIRELESS

Cable & Wireless plc appointed its chief executive officer, Graham Wallace, to the board of directors, effective immediately. He will continue in his role as CEO.

P-COM

P-Com Inc. appointed Steve Goldberg senior vice president and general manager of its newly formed Wireless Access Group. P-Com Wireless Access Group will consist of the company’s core point-to-point millimeterwave radio operations, including the existing
Tel-Link products as well as the next-generation Tel-Link products scheduled to be released soon. Before being named to lead t
he new P-Com division, Goldberg was president and chief executive officer of a venture-backed start-up involved in radio subsystems for satellite and terrestrial wireless infrastructures.

CUBIC

Richard M. Lober was named president and chief executive officer of Cubic Communications Inc. Lober previously served as director of wireless product sales and advanced development with Watkins-Johnson Co. in Gaithersburg, Md. He joined Watkins-Johnson in 1980 as a member of the technical staff and held technical and managerial positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of engineering, product line management and sales for defense and commercial applications. Lober is replacing Arthur F. Wigand, who retired.

TODD Products

Ronald G. DeLuca, director of the Value Added Group at Todd Products Corp. was promoted to vice president of engineering. DeLuca has more than 16 years of experience in the design, manufacture and integration of switching power supplies for original equipment manufacturers in industrial and commercial applications. Before joining Todd, he was employed by power supply manufacturer Lambda Electronics.

CHADMOORE Wireless

Chadmoore Wireless Group Inc. hired Richard Leto as chief financial officer. Leto has 20 years experience in finance, administration and planning, 13 of which were in wireless communications working in senior positions at NextWave Telecom Inc. and AirTouch International.

TADIRAN

Ted Nienaber was named manager of customer service at Tadiran Microwave Networks. In this capacity, Nienaber will manage the company’s long-term customer service program. Previously, he was a field engineer, field engineering supervisor and systems engineer for nine years with Motorola Inc., TeleSciences and California Microwave Inc. Most recently, Nienaber served as manager of microwave and systems engineering for Western Wireless Corp. in Bellevue, Wash.

TRANSCRYPT

Transcrypt International Inc. Chairman John T. Connor agreed to an extension of his position as interim chief executive officer of the company until the end of the year or until a new CEO is hired, whichever occurs first. Transcrypt also hired Craig F. Szczutkowski as senior vice president of product and market development, responsible for the company’s product development, engineering and marketing efforts. Szczutkowski has more than 20 years of engineering, sales, marketing and business development experience in wireless communications and information security. He previously served as vice president of international business for Ericsson Inc.’s Private Radio Systems business in Lynchburg, Va.
