BellSouth Corp. appointed Nancy Humphries vice president of investor relations. For the past seven years, Humphries served as executive director of investor relations for BellSouth, responsible for communicating the company’s strategies, financial results and management philosophy to both institutional and individual investors. In her new role, she will continue in those areas and assume responsibility for all financial communications as well. Humphries has more than 26 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and has worked in engineering, human resources and network planning positions.

Domingo Salcido was named vice president of operations at Tadiran Microwave Networks, responsible for managing TMN’s purchasing, production planning, manufacturing processes and product testing. Prior to his new appointment, Salcido served in a variety of manufacturing and quality-control assurance positions at Microwave Networks, a division of California Microwave Inc.
STM WIRELESS
Seven satellite industry executives joined the management team at STM Wireless Inc. Bill Carlin joined the company as vice president of sales. Previously, he worked for Hughes Network Systems Inc., where he was assistant vice president responsible for sales and business development in Africa and the Middle East/South Asia. John Hamilton brings more than 25 years of experience to his new position as vice president of human resources. Most recently, Hamilton was corporate director of human resources for Scientific-Atlanta. Jacquelyn Kirby, the new director of materials for STM, brings to her new position 10 years of experience with Motorola Inc., where she held positions in materials purchasing, logistics and information systems. The new director of sales for Europe, Africa and the Middle East is Kannan Soupramanien. He, too, was formerly with Hughes Network Systems, as marketing manager for satellite products in Europe. Joe Przygoda is STM’s new director of systems engineering. Przygoda brings more than 16 years of satellite system design, implementation and operations experience to STM, most recently at AvData Systems Inc., where he was responsible for the design, support and qualification of new equipment for very small aperture terminal networks. He also was director of systems engineering for Scientific-Atlanta’s Mobile Communications division, where he developed, installed and commissioned the first Inmarsat multichannel shipboard system. Joel Derrico, STM’s new program director, previously managed the implementation of satellite-based digital video compression systems for Scientific-Atlanta. During his three years as a staff electrical engineer at Scientific-Atlanta, he managed the design and development of a high-speed digital satellite modem used in Iridium L.L.C.’s network. Also formerly with Scientific-Atlanta, Bettina Barry is the new marketing manager for STM, responsible for all aspects of commercial marketing of the company.

Three senior executives joined Wireless One Inc., rounding out the company’s management team. Ahmad Shokri is the new senior vice president of operations and engineering, Thomas G. Noulles joined the company as senior vice president and general counsel and James R. Colson well serve as senior vice president of sales and marketing. Shokri brings 26 years of technical management and engineering experience to Wireless One, most recently as senior director of operations for Electric Lightwave Inc., a competitive local exchange carrier in Vancouver, Wash. Noulles has 22 years of corporate legal experience. He previously served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of C.I.S. Technologies Inc. of Tulsa, Okla. Colson joined Wireless One from AT&T Corp. He has 25 years’ experience in sales, marketing and customer service.

Wayne V. Wooddell was appointed vice president of finance and chief financial officer of SmarTalk Teleservices Inc. Wooddell previously served as CFO of ConQuest Telecommunication Services Corp., which SmarTalk acquired in December. Prior to joining ConQuest, Wooddell spent about 7 years in the audit department of Ernst & Young L.L.P.

Bruce Sidell was promoted to senior vice president of Americom Inc. Prior to his promotion, Sidell was responsible for all financial, accounting and information systems functions. In his new role, he also will oversee administrative and human resources functions. Prior to joining Americom in 1997, Sidell was director of finance and administration for Biosys Inc. Americom also appointed two new regional sales managers. Kevin Poplawski was hired as the West Coast regional sales manager, responsible for expanding Americom’s outsourcing concept and introducing product services in the area. Bob Shank joined Americom from Nextel Communications Inc. as Northeast regional sales manager.
