Kyro Corp.’s Tecnomen Group announced Mobilkom Austria selected it to supply a new messaging system for Mobilkom’s Global System for Mobile communications network expansion. The new system will add more than 600,000 voice and fax mailboxes to the Austrian GSM system, the company said. Tecnomen also provides voice messaging services for Mobilkom’s existing Austrian networks.
Nokia Corp. and Austrian operator Well.com announced they have agreed to deliver a complete terrestrial trunked radio mobile radio network for public-safety and security organizations in Austria. Nokia will deliver and implement a complete TETRA network, planned for next year, including switching, base stations, dispatching equipment and a network-management system. It also will supply TETRA hand-portable terminals and a range of customer services covering network planning, training and technical support.
South Korea
South Korean manufacturer Maxon Electronics Co. said it has developed a two-way voice pager developed under an exclusive contract with Readycom of the United States. The pager, which can send and receive voice messages using compressed voice data on established cellular networks, is based on Readycom’s patented technology. It expects to begin shipping the product this month.
Great Britain
Orange plc introduced the Orange Business Package to offer its business and government customers bundled services such as the Orange Wirefree Extension for large companies, which allows a company’s phone network to include mobile extensions. The Premicell product was developed for smaller users to facilitate on-net calls between office and mobile phones.
Australia
Wireless carrier Leap Wireless International Inc. announced one of its operating companies, OzPhone Pty. Ltd., acquired two more wireless licenses in Australia. In addition to the eight licenses OzPhone purchased in May, the company now has acquired the Remote West and Remote Queensland properties. OzPhone now owns 10 licenses covering 6 million pops.
