DALLAS-Dobson Cellular Systems said it will install Nortel Networks’ digital infrastructure equipment in Maryland, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania under a three-year, $30-million contract.
Nortel will supply radio and switching equipment using Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Time Division Multiple Access Interim Standard-136 and cdmaOne (IS-95 Code Division Multiple Access) technologies. This contract expands on a $35-million contract Dobson Cellular and Nortel signed in 1995.
The manufacturer plans to deliver 800 MHz TDMA equipment for Dobson in the Frederick, Md.; Syracuse, N.Y.; and Pittsburgh areas. Nortel initially will install AMPS equipment in Akron, Cleveland and Youngstown, Ohio, and said it plans to add 800 MHz CDMA next year.
