WASHINGTON-Yoshio Utsumi was elected secretary-general and Roberto Blois deputy secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union.
The two replace Pekka Tarjanne and Henry Chasia, respectively. Voting was completed at the ITU’s 15th Plenipotentiary Conference in Minneapolis.
Utsumi has done work to help liberalize Japan’s telecom market. Blois also is executive secretary of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL).
