NEW YORK-Plantronics Inc., a Santa Cruz, Calif., manufacturer of hands-free telephone devices, reported its second quarter was a record-setter for the company in income, revenue and cash flow.
“Both domestic and international business grew, with especially good increases in [United States] distribution, [original equipment manufacturers], retail and the European region as a whole,” said Robert S. Cecil, chairman and chief executive officer.
Net income totaled $13.6 million, up from $9.4 million for the same period in 1997. Earnings per share were 74 cents, a 45-percent increase over the year-ago quarter.
Second-quarter revenues totaled $71.2 million, up nearly 26 percent from the $56.5 million Plantronics reported during the same quarter in 1997.
“In addition to excellent performance on the income statement, we continued to generate significant positive cash flow,” said Barbara V. Scherer, senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Plantronics’ cash balance at the close of the second quarter totaled $95.1 million, compared with $56.2 million a year earlier.
