BELLSOUTHTO OFFER PAGING

BellSouth Mobility Inc. introduced text and alphanumeric pagers with unlimited local service for as low as $10 per month in BMI’s one-stop-shop retail stores. “By adding paging to our product mix, we are able to combine a variety of telecommunications services on one, easy bill,” said Mark Fiedler, BellSouth Mobility president. “The decision to add paging as part of BMI’s portfolio of services was based, in part, on recent research that shows the demand for paging services is on the rise, particularly among small business owners.”

In addition to offering wireline and wireless services, Internet access and digital TV services in select markets, BMI stores have a selection of pagers and accessories including the Motorola Inc. Jazz pager. Customers can sign up for BellSouth Paging services at about 800 BellSouth Mobility retail stores and kiosks. BMI’s parent, BellSouth Cellular Corp., signed an agreement with PageMart Wireless Inc. in May. BellSouth Cellular in 1996 sold its paging business, MobileComm, to MobileMedia Corp. in a deal valued at $945 million. The company said, at the time, the price and timing was right to divest the paging operations.
