HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it will supply a Global System for Mobile communications network to Philippines’ wireless carrier Smart Communications Inc.
According to the companies’ contract, Nokia will be the sole supplier of GSM 900 and GSM 1800 equipment. Smart plans to deploy GSM 900 nationwide and both GSM 900 and GSM 1800 in the metropolitan area of Manila, said Nokia.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin immediately. Nokia values the first phase of the agreement at $40 million.
Smart Communications is a joint venture of First Pacific, NTT Corp. and several local investors.
