STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson announced Nov. 25 it signed a contract to provide a turnkey Global System for Mobile communications network to OOO Tomsk Cellular Communications in central Russia.
The network, with a first-phase capacity of 3,000 subscribers, will permit OOO Tomsk to offer call waiting, call hold, multiparty conference calling and closed user group service, which restricts the accessible numbers for a defined group of users.
In its second phase, the network will be expanded to serve up to 4,000 additional customers within and beyond the limits of Tomsk, an industrial city in a region of about 500,000 people.
Ericsson said it has had a presence in Russia since 1881 and has supplied wireline and wireless network infrastructure to at least 100 cities in 50 regions of the country.
