NEW ORLEANS-DSP Communications Inc. said it expected to deliver to original equipment
manufacturers this spring the D5205, its fifth-generation WorldTDMA baseband chipset.
The D5205 contains two
chips, a mixed-signal audio and intermediate frequency interface chip, plus a baseband engine chip, which includes
baseband digital signal processing and microcontroller sections.
“With the inclusion of an [Asynchronous
Response Mode Central Processing Unit], DSPC’s D5205 offers a highly integrated, economical solution for handset
manufacturers,” said Gabriel Hilevitz, vice president of marketing and sales for DSPC.
“With more
capability than ever before, [the] new flexible platform will act as the foundation for [our] future products, which will
offer higher data rate capability to enable the convergence of voice, data and video.”
The company called
D5205 “significant” as an advance in tandem with the development of Time Division Multiple Access
Interim Standard 136 “as it evolves into IS-136 and eventually into EDGE technology.”
