Japan
Tu-Ka Phone Kansai Inc., based in Osaka, Japan, said it selected Brite Voice Systems
and Marubeni, a large Japanese trading company, to launch an intelligent network-based version of BriteDebit, Brite’s
prepaid service. Brite said it will help Tu-Ka Phone Kansai with all aspects of its prepaid service deployment ranging
from creating customer profiles and database management, to card fulfillment and rate plan management.
LHS
Group Inc. announced it entered into a software agreement to license its client/server-based customer care and billing
system, BSCS, to Satellite Phone Japan Ltd. The BSCS implementation will be provided by LHS Hong Kong Ltd.,
NTT Data Corp., and Bussan Systems Integration. BSCS will support customer service, billing and financial
management of ICO Global Communications’s Japanese satellite services customers through SPJ, said
LHS.
Brazil
Lightbridge Inc. announced it is working with Schahin, one of the largest Brazilian systems
integrators, to provide Global Telecom, the new B-band operator in Brazil, with Lightbridge’s FraudBuster product.
“Fraud is one of the biggest risks carriers face in Brazil. We are confident that FraudBuster will provide more
security for our operations than any other fraud prevention solution in the market today,” said Francisco Loureiro,
president of Global Telecom. FraudBuster collects call detail records to create individual subscriber usage profiles. It
then updates, references and analyzes the profiles on a call-by-call basis to uncover abnormal activity which may
indicate fraud, said Lightbridge.
Sweden
Tele1 Europe said it won Sweden’s fourth mobile phone license and
will provide its services over Telia AB’s existing Global System for Mobile communication networks. The agreement
will be operational in the second quarter, said Tele1 Europe.
Puerto Rico
Celulares Telefonica Inc. said it is the
first cellular carrier in Puerto Rico to introduce the Responder two-way voice messaging service from ReadyCom Inc.
The launch is the first to incorporate Spanish language service for end-users. Customers will have a choice of Spanish
or English. The Responder is a pager-sized device that receives and stores voice messages sent over the cellular
network, said the company.
