SONY ELECTRONICS

Sony Electronics introduced a new alphanumeric pager with a
synthesized tuner, generic-over-the-air programming capabilities and the company’s Jog Dial operation, called the MP-
7001. The generic-over-the-air programming technology, or GOTAP, is an advanced feature of the Motorola Inc.
FLEXsuite protocol. Sony also released the newest D-WAVE Astra Code Division Multiple Access wireless handset,
model CM-SB200. It will be the smallest and lightest of the existing D-WAVE Astra handsets, weighing approximately
5 ounces. The optional lithium-ion battery will increase talk time from four to six hours, and increase standby time
from 75 hours to 160 hours, said Sony. Improvements also include 199 speed dial memory and the ability of the phone
to switch between 1.9 GHz CDMA and 800 MHz analog frequencies. (800) 222-7669.

NOKIA

Nokia
Telecommunications unveiled improvements to its Global System for Mobile communications Intranet Office solution,
which combines Internet Protocol telephony and GSM technology to enable local switching of phone calls via the
company’s local area network, while switching outside calls through the GSM network. The products include a gateway
interface with the external telecommunications network, as well as a local switch for intra-office calls, said the
company.

Nokia also launched it Total Mobility Office solution, which combines the Nokia GSM Office and the
GSM Intranet Office. Using Total Mobility, customers will have one telephone system for the entire company’s voice
and data needs, one bill and one voice mail and phone number for each employee.

Nokia introduced its InSite Base
Station, a GSM indoor base station weighing 2.5 kilograms. It supports GSM, High Speed Circuit Switched Data and
General Packet Radio Service technologies and will be available for GSM 900 frequencies.

Nokia also introduced
the 7110 dual -band GSM 900 media phone, based on the Wireless Application Protocol. The phone features a large
graphics display screen for viewing text information retrieved from the Internet. It has a built-in dictionary to which a
user can add new words. Nokia said the Nokia 7110 also is capable or storing up to 1,000 names in a phone book and it
supports up to 4.5 hours of talk time, recognizes 34 languages and has 35 ringing tones. (972) 894-

INTELLIVOICE

Intellivoice Communications Inc. announced enhancements to its speech recognition
software. It now allows carriers to offer two classes of voice-activated dialing service-up to either 20 or 40 stored
names-based on the size of a subscriber’s personal directory. The software is available in English or Spanish. The new
enhancements are incorporated into Intellivoice’s proprietary Dahlke Bayes Error Correction Technique, which delivers

ANALOG DEVICES

Analog Devices Inc. introduced its
AD6121 IF receiver and AD6122 IF transmitter for Code Division Multiple Access handsets. The 3-volt, low-power
CDMA IF subsystem chips reduce power consumption and improve the dynamic range of CDMA handsets, said the
company. Analog Devices also announced it has signed a joint development agreement with Intel Corp. to design a
digital signal processing core architecture, which will result in a fixed-point, low-power DSP core that is ideal for
processing video, image, voice and data in emerging embedded communications and Internet appliances. (800) 262-

LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES

Lucent Technologies Inc. announced Digital HotDesk, an application that
allows calls to a mobile user’s office telephone to be routed to a different location. Lucent said users can administer
Digital HotDesk through their business voice mailboxes. If the call is not answered when routed to a wireless phone, it
will be transferred to the next number specified or to the subscriber’s voice mailbox, where the caller can leave a
message, transfer to another extension or speak to an operator. Digital HotDesk is expected to be available to wireless

OMNIPOINT

Omnipoint Technologies
Inc. announced the first shipments of its Redhawk 2000 Series for Global System for Mobile communications-based
wireless automatic meter reading and telemetry product to KeySpan Energy’s utility, located in Long Island, N.Y.
Omnipoint said KeySpan will use the Redhawk 2000 to wirelessly control and monitor, via the GSM network, its solid-

SIGMAONE

SigmaOne
Communications Corp. said its Sigma 2000 location system achieved a one sigma accuracy of 199 feet and better than
two sigma accuracy of under 410 feet during a trial of 600,000 location measurements, in Los Angeles. SigmaOne’s
network-based location product uses Correlative Location Technology, which combines Time Difference of Arrival

UltraTek announced it developed a pre-programmed codeplug-conversion kit that allows
pager refurbishers to change the cap code and frequency of Motorola Inc. Advisor Gold Elite pagers. The kit consists of

MOTOROLA

Motorola
Inc.’s Network Solutions Sector unveiled the SC 340 and the SC 4812T Code Division Multiple Access digital cellular
base transceiver stations. The SC 340, designed for indoor or outdoor installations, supports a single CDMA carrier and
provides localized capacity and coverage solutions. It also extends the base station-to-global positioning system
distance to 2,000 feet. It comes in both PicoCell (weighting 33 pounds) and a MicroCell (weighing 53 pounds)
versions. The SC 4812T is a six-sector, multicarrier-capable CDMA base station with Motorola’s TrunkPower
technology. It uses a new technique, said the company, in which a bank of linear power amplifiers is shared between

Lightbridge Inc. announced
@Risk, an intra-carrier suspect database; and Alias, a subscription fraud profiler that detects suspect account activity.
@Risk serves as a repository for suspect information where carriers can screen or match information gathered from
prior fraud investigations. Alias detects changes to account information or makes matches against suspect information
and generates an “event.” An event triggers an evaluation that determines if an investigation should take
place. Both products run under either Solaris 2.6 or HP/UX 11 with Oracle 8. A Web server also is required, which

Metawave
Communications Corp. introduced a new version of its SpotLight 2000 smart antenna system that will be compatible
with Motorola Inc.’s SC 2450 base station. SpotLight 2000 increases network capacity by balancing traffic loads
amongst sectors. Metawave also announced several new SpotLight 2000 features including Beam Controller, a
graphical user interface that supports sector synthesis in Code Division Multiple Access systems; and upgrades to
LampLighter, the configuration software for analog systems. Metawave also is offering an electrical downtilt option for

Powerwave Techno
logies Inc. introduced the MCA9000-90 series 800 MHz, four-
module multicarrier power amplifier for macrocell base stations. The product is targeted for use in cellular mixed-mode

Wireless Inc. released the WaveNet IP 2458 wireless access router for point-to-multipoint
data transmission and voice-over-Internal Protocol applications. It operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz Industrial
Scientific Medical license-free frequency bands with system capacity up to 20 megabits per second per central site.
Embedded support for VoIP provides user configurable bandwidth reservations for voice traffic along with voice
prioritization to allow the user to control and manage the mix of voice and data traffic on their network. WaveNet IP
2458 is composed of both central and remote units. Up to 12 central units can be collocated at one central location with
