GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala-Telefonica Centroamerica, a member of Telefonica Group,
said it acquired the 15-megahertz band B license for personal communications services in Guatemala for $33
million.
The company recently acquired a Guatemalan telecommunications company, which already had all the
necessary licenses (except one in cellular telephony) that Telefonica Group needs to proceed with developing a
complete range of fixed and mobile telephone services.
Telefonica Group said it plans to invest approximately $100
million during the next six months to develop these services. The company hopes to offer cellular and long-distance
service before this summer.
