NEW YORK-The European Telecommunications Standard Institute’s approval and publication of a new Europe-wide narrowband specification has given the licensing of Intek Global Corp.’s proprietary linear modulation technology a major boost, said the company.
Intek’s LM technology-a patented technique that compresses wireless signals and conserves bandwidth-uses a 5-kilohertz channel, meeting and surpassing the ETSI standards, which sanction 5-kilohertz or 6.25-kilohertz channels throughout Europe, said Intek. The company said its LM technology now meets the spectrum-efficiency requirements of both the Federal Communications Commission and ETSI.
“This is a very significant development for Intek Global because many European countries were reluctant to commit to a new technology until the standards issue was resolved,” said Robert J. Shiver, Intek Global chairman and chief executive officer.
“Establishment of a common European narrowband standard, which LM technology meets and exceeds, removes a major hurdle facing our global LM licensing efforts under the ‘Intek Millennium’ strategic initiative. Europe represents a potential multibillion dollar market for spectrum-efficient narrowband equipment and services, and for the refarming of existing spectrum on already congested frequencies,” said Shiver.
