SAN JOSE, Calif.-Puma Technology said it teamed with DoCoMo/NTT Mobile Communications Network to provide cellular phone users in Japan wireless Internet access to corporate groupware application information through Puma’s Intellisync Anywhere software and DoCoMo’s i-mode cellular phone service.
The i-mode service provides users a mobile phone featuring an embedded Hypertext Markup Language browser for sending and receiving information such as stock quotes and movie schedules. When used with Intellisync Anywhere software, i-mode users also will be able to receive corporate e-mail, meeting and other information.
According to Puma, Intellisync Anywhere will empower corporations to widely adopt handheld computers, such as the PalmPilot Connected Organizer, to keep their employees up-to-date, wherever they are.
“Intellisync Anywhere software enables a seamless connection between DoCoMo’s i-mode service and the exchange server, significantly improving the speed of message transmission for mobile users,” said Takahiko Higashi, director of Microsoft Japan’s Application Developer Customer unit.
Plans call for Intellisync Anywhere to be available as part of the i-mode service beginning this fall.
