WASHINGTON-The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association will hold its first Lobby Day Wednesday, an event that will celebrate the success of the wireless industry and allow executives on Capitol Hill to brief lawmakers on concerns about taxes, antenna siting, digital wiretap implementation and other issues.
The theme for the wireless lobbying campaign is “Competition, Innovation and Safety.” To help make the point, CTIA is supplying lawmakers with Beanie Baby-like mobile phones-one a week for nine weeks-to represent the present and future of a market that today boasts 69 million subscribers.
“The government directed competitive telecommunications. Wireless has delivered,” said CTIA President Thomas Wheeler, in a letter accompanying the bean bag mobile phones.
With Congress returning from its two-week Easter-Passover break, E911 and wireless bills are poised to be introduced in the Senate this week.
On a related front, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials will hold a press conference today here to talk about E911 wireless legislation and to kick off National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
