NEW YORK-For status-conscious Americans, Nokia Corp. plans to debut by late summer its Nokia 8800 series phone, carrying a suggested retail price of “under $1,000,” the company said May 10.
The Nokia 8800 series includes the 8860 tri-mode phone that supports Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Time Division Multiple Access 800 and TDMA 1900. Two Code Division Multiple Access models for cellular and personal communications services systems also will be introduced this year.
The new handsets weigh less than four ounces and, depending on the networks they use, offer talk times of up to 2.5 hours and standby times of up to six days.
Features include: a fully integrated internal antenna, a built-in vibrating alert and a choice of 35 ringing tones, a high-resolution, five-line graphical display, an active slide that answers calls when opened and ends when closed, one-touch voice mail access and caller identification. The handsets also provide a personal calendar, alarm clock, a phone book memory for up to 250 numbers, speed dialing and three games.
