Qualcomm Inc. announced Nashville-based Star Transportation Inc. replaced its multimode, satellite and land-based communication system with Qualcomm’s OmniTracs satellite-based information-management system. Star already has installed more than 430 OmniTracs units, said Qualcomm. OmniTracs is a mobile communications and tracking system that provides real-time messaging and position reporting between fleets and operation centers.
DSP Communications Inc. appointed founder and Chairman of the Board Davidi Gilo as chief executive officer. He replaces Joseph Perl, who will remain with the company as an adviser to Gilo on strategic and technological issues.
Metromedia International Group Inc. announced that on June 15 it will pay its regularly scheduled dividend of 90.6 cents per share on its 7.25-percent cumulative convertible preferred stock in cash to holders of record at the close of business May 25.
Nokia Corp. broke ground on a 135,000-square-foot building in Burlington, Mass., that will become home for several of the company’s telecommunications and Internet-related business units in the greater-Boston area. About 450 employees will occupy the building, which also will contain a full-service cafeteria, product-demonstration theater, training and conference center, wellness center and outdoor pavilion, said Nokia. Building completion is projected for November.
Applied Cellular Technology Inc. said it secured a $79 million credit facility from IBM Global Financing, which may be expanded to $95 million in multiple currencies. The credit facility provides for a secured line of credit initially set at three years, and includes a term loan for $22 million, an acquisition facility for $35 million and a revolving credit line of $22 million. This credit facility replaces the $23 million line of credit previously provided by State Street Bank and Trust Co., said Applied Cellular.
BellSouth Mobility Inc. introduced BellSouth Wireless Data L.P.’s Interactive Paging Service to its portfolio of one-stop shopping solutions, the company announced. BellSouth Mobility said it offers the paging service through direct sales representatives in larger metropolitan markets throughout the southeastern United States.
