SAN JOSE, Calif.-Globalstar L.P. announced its fixed telephone terminal was approved for use throughout the European Union, which the company said will speed the certification process for the phone in other countries and quicken similar approval for its mobile handsets.
EU certification for the fixed terminal, made by Qualcomm Inc., means it will be recognized by the telecom authorities in all 15 EU countries and allows Qualcomm to register the phone with the International Telecommunication Union, said Globalstar. ITU registration will allow the phone to be recognized by the more than 130 country signatories of the organization’s Memorandum of Understanding for Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite.
