Xircom Inc. announced a new product line called CompactCard, which it said extends wireless connectivity for Windows CE handheld computers. Gabriel Electronics
Gabriel Electronics Inc. introduced the Quick Align Mount, a terrestrial microwave point-to-point antenna mount designed to simplify the installation and alignment of an antenna. A wrench and a screwdriver are the only tools needed for installation. TriQuint Semiconductor
TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. introduced the TGA1073A, B, C and G power amplifier microwave monolithic integrated circuit devices covering the 19 GHz to 41 GHz frequency band. The ICs are fabricated on TriQuint’s 0.25 micron gate length, production power pHEMT process. The pHEMT process produces high-frequency device performance comparable to that of 0.15 micron gate length devices and allows for reduced intermodulation distortion over devices fabricated with other process technologies. The ICs meet the transmission requirements of millimeter wave-based digital communication devices, such as point-to-point microwave radios in the 23, 26, 30 and 38 GHz bands; local multipoint distribution service systems in the 27 GHz to 31 GHz bands; and the 40 GHz to 42 GHz microwave video distribution systems for Europe. Hewlett-Packard Co. debuted the HP 43521A downconverter unit. The HP 43521A significantly extends the frequency range of the HP 4352S, HP’s VCO/PLL evaluation and test system for wireless/digital communications equipment. The enhanced HP 4352S offers a frequency range from 10 MHz to 12.6 GHz and is capable of measuring phase noise, radio-frequency power, transients and settling time, among others. Moseley
Moseley announced the NXE1 point-to-point digital radio, which can deliver 2,048 kilobits of data in as little as 400 kilohertz of channel bandwidth. The NXE1 allows one transceiver to deliver user-defined rates from 384 kilobits per second to 34 megabits per second in bandwidths of 200 kilohertz to 7 megahertz using 4, 16, 32 or 64 quadrature amplitude modulation. Socket Communications Inc. launched its Socket Digital Phone Card, a plug-in card that simplifies the attachment of a digital-capable cellular phone to a Windows CE-based PC Companion or a Windows 9x/NT notebook. The I 888 World wireless handset is now available from Ericsson Inc. The I 888 World has dual-band capability, operating on 1900 MHz Global System for Mobile communication networks in North and South America, as well as 900 MHz networks elsewhere in the world. The handset has an infrared modem, which can be used with an infrared-compatible laptop computer, palmtop or personal digital assistant to check e-mail, send and receive faxes or browse the Internet. It can provide both forward and reverse link studies of received signal strength, fade margin, C/I ratio and percentage availability. Antenna Products debuted a new line of personal communications services antennas for interstate highway coverage and back-haul applications. The PCS antennas have a horizontal beamwidth of 50 degrees and vertical beamwidths that vary from 5.5 degrees to 28 degrees, depending on the model.
