Belgium

Belgacom and Amdocs announced an agreement under which Belgacom will deploy Amdocs’ order-management system to handle ordering services for its convergent lines of business, including wireline, data services and paging. Amdocs’ order-management system provides a single point of contact for all services and products sold by Belgacom, as well as a single data-processing stream to improve data quality and order flow, said the companies. It replaces six ordering applications.

Mexico

Telefonos de Mexico S.A. de C.V. filed a shelf registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for public offerings of up to $1.25 billion of debt securities, including convertible debt securities. Telmex also announced the offering of $750 million of convertible senior debentures due 2004. The company said it plans to use the net proceeds to repay debt and for general corporate purposes. J.P. Morgan & Co., Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, and Salomon Smith Barney are expected to be underwriters for the offering, said Telmex.

Canada

Microcell Connexions Inc. signed a contract calling for Nortel Networks to supply network infrastructure and services during the next three years for Microcell’s Global System for Mobile communications personal communications services network in Canada. The deal is valued at $60 million.

BCT.Telus Mobility announced it has launched the Tango network, a group-calling radio network that offers business customers individual calling, group calling and messaging over the same network all across Alberta. Tango will provide service to under-served rural areas as well as secondary and urban centers across Alberta, according to Telus Mobility. “Tango offers state-of-the-art features, and combines voice, status messaging, text messaging and circuit-switched data within one communication device available from several manufacturers, resulting from the use of the global MPT 1327 standard,” said Ron Ruff, Tango project manager.
