HACKENSACK, N.J.-GoAmerica Communications Corp. announced it is beta testing a service that will allow mobile users to comparison-shop wirelessly, by scanning product barcodes and checking competing vendor prices on wireless handheld devices over the Internet.
The solution uses a patent-pending search engine developed by BarPoint.com Inc. Using the search engine, users will be able to type or scan in a product’s barcode and compare the price within a database of more than 100 million products-including music, camcorders, books, videos, computer products, grocery items and pharmaceuticals. The user then can either purchase the scanned product or its cheaper alternative via e-commerce capabilities, the company said.
