Fresh from his turnaround performance leading MobileMedia Communications Inc. out of bankruptcy, former president and chief executive officer Ron Grawert has been named CEO of Clariti Telecommunications International. The company said its Wireless Messaging division is developing a voice-mail system called ClariCAST Digital Wireless Voice Mail System, a voice paging application using FM subcarrier frequencies, which it plans to market worldwide.

w-Trade Inc. announced four new brokerage customers have bought its Wireless Trading System, enabling customers to track market data and make trades from various wireless devices, including smart phones and two-way pagers. The new companies include Benson York Group Inc., Firstrade Securities Inc., WinTrade Inc. and Wyse Securities. The Wireless Trading System uses w-Trade’s wireless application server technology that extends online trading and e-commerce applications to most wireless devices and networks, as well as hooks into back-end database and transaction systems used by brokerages. w-Trade said about 15 percent of the top 20 brokerages now use the solution.

AvantGo Inc. said it has received a total of $14.7 million in third-round equity investments from both Microsoft Corp. and 3Com Corp., as well as several venture capital firms.

American Tower Corp. said it has entered an agreement to acquire a 1,151-foot broadcast communications tower in Philadelphia from Beasley Family Towers Inc. The tower supports a television station, two FM radio stations and other wireless tenants, said the company. American Tower also is acquiring a 220-foot broadcast tower located in Atlantic City, N.J., and a 140-foot wireless communications tower located in Rock Hill, Pa.
