ATX TECHNOLOGIES TO PURCHASE PROTECTION ONE MOBILE SERVICES UNIT

SAN ANTONIO-ATX Technologies Inc. plans to acquire Protection One Mobile Services Group in a transaction valued at about $28 million.

Both companies provide telematics services.

Protection One Mobile currently is owned by Protection One Inc., which is involved in the home security industry. Protection One Mobile developed the Lincoln RESCU system with Ford Motor Co. and Motorola Inc. The company has original equipment manufacturer agreements with Mercedes-Benz North America, Ford Motor Corp. and Infiniti, and it also services Clarion Corp.’s AutoPC program.

The combined company will maintain both ATX’s San Antonio office and Protection One Mobile’s Dallas facility. Steve Riebel, president and chief executive officer of ATX, said the company will retain both Protection One Mobile’s and ATXs’ work forces.

“This is not a combination designed to cut expenses, but a combination to create a company dedicated exclusively to providing innovative telematics services,” said Riebel.
