SAN FRANCISCO-The Wireless Application Protocol Forum has released the latest version of its mobile Internet standard-WAP version 1.1-at its members meeting.
Enhancements to the new version include:
local and international support to create one worldwide standard for mobile Internet communications;
static conformance needed for interoperability testing;
enhanced client-side state model and added support for a caching mechanism in the user agent to provide better performance over limited bandwidth bearer networks and reduce air traffic;
support for Code Division Multiple Access, Short Message Service and circuit-switched bearers; and
resolution of several technical issues and ambiguities in the WAP version 1.0.
Additionally, the WAP Forum said it contracted The Open Group to develop a test suite for a WAP v1.1 certification program for both clients and servers focused on the Wireless Markup Language application layer specifications.
