VIENNA, Va.-Cable & Wireless USA filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to provide switched and private line service to Bermuda through facilities owned by C&W USA, said the company. Previously, C&W USA had been limited to providing services to Bermuda exclusively through the resold services of other U.S. carriers.
In its application, C&W USA said it provides evidence the Bermuda market is competitive and the Bermuda regulator has the means to prevent market abuses. Since C&W USA is affiliated with Cable & Wireless Bermuda, it must satisfy the Federal Communications Commission’s effective competitive opportunities test, which requires that applicants prove the correspondent market does not have any barriers to entry.
“C&W USA’s entry into the Bermuda market will increase competition on this route and benefit U.S. consumers,” said Rachel J. Rothstein, C&W USA’s vice president of regulatory and government affairs.
