The Universal Wireless Communications Consortium, a group of more than 100 Time Division Multiple Access and Wireless Intelligent Network vendors and operators, appointed Sheila Mickool its new president.
Mickool has more than 20 years of computer and telecommunications experience, most recently with D. Garvey Corp., where she was president and chief executive officer of the private consulting firm, which specializes in the deployment of wireless communications systems.
“I grew up in the computer industry and then shifted over to telecommunications, so I have a long background in technology,” said Mickool. “I also have a CEO perspective.
“A lot of people in our industry, of course, have technical backgrounds, and I have a little broader perspective having run businesses and been the president and CEO,” continued Mickool. “That’s important to the consortium because as we grow, and as we become more of a presence globally, those skill sets are going to be important.”
Mickool said her near-term goals at the consortium are threefold: continue UWCC’s focus on technology by continuing to submit materials to standards bodies on time and on schedule; focus on policy and regulatory issues by ensuring people understand the technologies and how they would be applicable to them; and educating analysts, regulators, government officials, investors and carriers worldwide about what TDMA is, what kind of migration path exists and why they should consider choosing TDMA.
